The DAFT about DRAFT Flagship Store Moves to a New Location in 2028
DAFT about DRAFT is a brand born from the designs that Taiju Yamashita, the designer, had been writing down little by little in the course of various projects. He has been thinking about how to propose a more personalized and freer lifestyle, just like choosing clothes, in contrast to the homogenized lifestyles we are used to. We want to design with a sense of freedom and humor without being bound by stereotypes, and we express this overflowing sense of playfulness through our products.
In August 2022, alongside the brand’s launch, DAFT about DRAFT opened its Tokyo Flagship Store in Omotesando, carrying original products and items making their Japanese debut, and proposing new lifestyle ideas for everything from everyday use to the holiday season. [理塙1.1]Beloved by many customers, the Tokyo Flagship Store closed on Sunday, July 5, 2026, as design began for a new base to further expand the brand. The flagship store is planned to reopen at a new location in 2028.
The New Concept Store: WH DAFT about DRAFT
WH DAFT about DRAFT is a new concept store created by opening up, as retail space, a site originally planned to serve as a warehouse until DAFT about DRAFT’s new flagship store is ready. The store takes its name, WH, from that origin: Warehouse.
WH DAFT about DRAFT opens Saturday, August 29, 2026, near Kotto-dori in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, an area lined with museums, fashion boutiques, and cafes. On the street-facing first floor, alongside DAFT about DRAFT’s signature fragrances, tableware, and cushions, the store now also carries posters and stationery. Going forward, the lineup will keep expanding to fit a wider range of lifestyles, adding original WH items and goods for kids. The second floor showcases art pieces and rugs alongside DAFT about DRAFT’s original products, including the chair “No.15,” letting visitors experience their fine details firsthand.
“A Warehouse of the Mind”: A Space Where Unique Objects Gather
Architect and designer Taiju Yamashita of Taiju Yamashita Design and Architecture, who also leads the brand, designed the space around the concept of “a warehouse of the mind.”
The space brings together everything, from the kind of things everyone half imagines wanting, to one-of-a-kind items found nowhere else, to the unique objects envisioned by Taiju Yamashita. I[理塙1.1]nside, a giraffe statue bearing the brand’s logo stands watch, and animals in the brand’s signature colors hide throughout the store. Even the fixtures, storage, and graphics carry a distinctly WH design down to the smallest detail. More than 100 containers built into the walls organize the merchandise by category, letting visitors browse and pick freely, as if hunting for a favorite item inside a warehouse, sparking their curiosity.
WH keeps the avant-garde spirit and playfulness that define DAFT about DRAFT, while pushing further into freedom and experimentation. Explore the store as though searching through a warehouse, and enjoy a shopping experience filled with unique finds and unexpected discoveries available nowhere else.

Taiju Yamashita
Born in 1981 in Tokyo, Taiju Yamashita is Founder of DRAFT and leads Taiju Yamashita Design and Architecture. He is an architect and designer renowned for his work in interior and architectural design, spanning from urban environments to furniture creation. Under the belief that spaces should be designed with people at the core, he continuously redefines and redesigns urban, architectural, and spatial environments. Taiju has received numerous awards, including the Best of Year Awards and SBID Awards.
