The design concept is an inn for experiencing life with "doma," a Japanese earthen floor

Doma was traditionally used as a kitchen and workshop and a buffer space between the inside of a residence and the outside, and the doma of Machiya Residence Inn was adapted to have a more modern appearance — complete with a luxurious atrium in the Kanata. While preserving the framework of the building, the columns and beams were reinforced and repositioned to create a more spacious feel. The design is such that the kitchen, Japanese-style room, bedroom, and bathroom all encircle the doma, so guests are bound to enjoy a one-of-a-kind stay.

The furniture, shoji screens, and other interior items were reused as elements helping to evoke the atmosphere of the past. Low-light and low-saturation materials were adopted to achieve a chic look and accentuate the texture of the building; aiming to fully draw out the deeply-rooted machiya charm amid the modernized style.
